Re: Anti virus
avg is pretty standard farrsie and above all else its free. Some of the others would be better at giving advice on this though so please dont rush in as these programmes are hard to get rid of once you have them on unless you are good with the registry settings.

Re: Anti virus
Farrsie use the Windows one its V good, not sure if it only comes with vista you would need to check that out, to be honest you will only need it if you open email attachments from strangers, download from dodgy sites or have bank accounts with millions of pounds in them.
When I say download I mean "browse" every image you see day in - day out is copied onto your pc (downloaded) but they are only held in a temporary folder but this too needs cleaned on a regular basis - INTERNET EXPLORER - TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - DELETE COOKIES AND FOLDERS - word of caution though if you are one of those who ticks "remember my log in/password instead of typing them everytime you will lose all these as they are "Cookies" - if someone gets into (hacks) your PC this will be the first port of call so clean it regular like!
Cookies are also used to spy on you so try a free checker like "spyalert" my best advice would be to find a decent PC magazine site and look through the "FREE" downloads they have, they cant afford to not check the stuff they are offering and will always have an article explaining what it is, even better a PC forum.
